SSE – School Self Evaluation

SSE update June 2025 for Loreto College Cavan

What is it? At Loreto College Cavan, our Self-Evaluation (SSE) process reflects our commitment to continuous improvement in Teaching and Learning, Wellbeing, Inclusion, Digital Integration, and Student Voice. The SSE identifies what we’re doing well, pinpoints areas to strengthen, and maps out clear actions to help every student thrive.

 SSE Focus

 2025-2026

Our focus for the upcoming year includes:
• Universal Design for Learning (UDL): Embedding inclusive strategies across all classrooms.
• Wellbeing: Implementing the Bi Cineáltas Anti-Bullying Procedures.
• Digital Integration: Rolling out school-managed devices for 5th Year students.
• Attendance: Reducing student absence through enhanced tracking and communication.
• Curriculum Review: Reallocating time to key subjects and updating ICT delivery.
• AEN Support: Consistent use of data and digital tools to target individual student needs.
• Student Voice: Collaborating on uniform updates and inclusive school culture.
What we are doing well • Inclusive Teaching: Many staff already use effective differentiation strategies through UDL.
• Digital Learning: Strong engagement with OneNote and preparation for device integration.
• Wellbeing: Students feel safe, and anti-bullying measures are well received.
• Curriculum: Increased focus on core subjects and wellbeing through SPHE.
• Student Support: AEN department provides rich, personalised student information.
• Student Voice: Uniform feedback led to proposed PE uniform updates.
 How do we know?

We gather data in a number of ways:

• Teachers give ongoing feedback in many ways: staff surveys, at meetings, in their subject planning meetings.
• Parents are surveyed during the year.
• Information evenings held for parents.
• We held a student focus group to get student feedback on UDL Universal Design for Learning.
• Regular meetings with the student leadership team and student council who provide valuable feedback on our school.
• Inspectorate reports, i.e., subject inspection reports.
• Research completed by SLT, AP1 and AP2 personnel
• There are weekly meetings with Principal, Deputy Principals, Heads of Year, AEN and Guidance councillors to support students in each year group.
• Feedback from Wellbeing and Anti-Bullying questionnaires.
• Attendance data analysis and comparisons over time.
• Consultation with external experts and device providers.
• Evaluation of curriculum time allocation and outcomes.

This is what we are working on

• Teaching & Learning: Expand UDL through CPD, Teach Meets, and OneNote tools.
• Wellbeing: Fully adopt the Bi Cineáltas procedures, update policies, and educate the school community.
• Digital: Provide devices for all 5th Years and train teachers in project-based learning methods.
• Attendance: Automate attendance letters and increase parental communication.
• Curriculum: Adjust timetable in 1st year to increase time for Maths, and include an ICT modulus in term 1
• AEN: Use referral forms and templates for consistent individual target setting.
• Student Voice: Continued input

This is what you can do to help

• Parents/Guardians: Stay engaged with school communication and participate in surveys.
• Students: Share honest feedback and participate actively in consultations and initiatives.
• Teachers: Continue to collaboration in subject department and implement agreed strategies, join sub committees to have your say.
• Wider School Community: Support the roll-out of school initiatives e.g., wellbeing and digital learning programs.
• Your feedback and input are invaluable in helping us improve what we do.

What next?

• All stakeholders (students, parents, and teachers) will be asked to give feedback at various stages in 2025 – 2026. This will guide ongoing adjustments
• Policies, timetables, and practices will be updated to reflect the progress and needs of our learners.
• All targets and actions in SIP will be monitored and evaluated in 2025 – 2026 to improve our practice.
• Ongoing commitment to inclusive, responsive education will remain at the heart of our improvement efforts.
