PRINCIPAL’S WELCOME

I join with the Chairperson of our Board of Management, Ms Liz Cogan, in welcoming you to the web-site of Loreto College Cavan.
Our school is situated in a beautiful woodland setting in the townland of Drumkeen, just outside Cavan Town. The beauty of our sylvan setting is captured on the home page of our school website at www.loretocavan.ie and also on the cover of our new school brochure.
In 1930 the pioneering sisters of Loreto took up the challenge of providing Catholic secondary education for the girls of Cavan Town and the surrounding countryside. They faced enormous challenges and you can read the story of their vision, struggles and courage below and also on our website.
Today Loreto College Cavan is part of the network of Loreto secondary schools in Ireland. We recently celebrated 75 years of Loreto education in Cavan Town and are presently preparing to celebrate the fourth centenary of the founding of the Loreto Order by Mary Ward in 1609.
Our Loreto ethos is what distinguishes us from other excellent schools. Here in Loreto College Cavan we are immensely proud of our Loreto roots, which are strong and deep and define our identity as a Catholic school. Our core values are Joy, Freedom, Sincerity, Truth and Justice and we strive to ensure they find daily expression in every facet of school life. We communicate these values to our students so that they may be enriched and lead meaningful lives, both now and in the future.
One of the best definitions I have read of a school is, “Four walls surrounding the future”. Loreto College Cavan strives to provide our students with a broad and balanced education that will serve them well into the future and equip them to contribute richly towards making this world a better place for all. Our school’s Mission Statement, featured on this website, highlights our holistic approach to the education of our students. The school curriculum aims to put the ideals of our Mission Statement into action. We provide a wide range of subjects at Junior, Transition and Senior Cycle levels, as well as extra-curricular activities, to develop students various talents.
Our past pupils have excelled in their chosen careers all over the world. We are hoping to renew our links with many of them through our developing school website.
We believe that the various achievements of our past pupils confirm the wisdom and insight of Mary Ward, foundress of Loreto, who predicted 400 years ago that,

“ Women in time to come will do much”
I hope you find this website interesting and informative. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you require any further information about Loreto College Cavan.
